The Junior School Council of Welshpool and District Primary School decided to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation by participating in the
“Shave For A Cure” Day.

Peter Young, our principal, volunteered to have his head shaved if enough money could be raised. Everyone got right behind the idea and $1,310.30 was raised from the students, parents and the community. On Friday 14th March over 50 people came to the school to witness the great event. The students got into the swing of things by holding a “Funky Hair” Day and may outrageous styles could be seen amongst the crowd.

Megan Allan from Simply Styles Hairdressers of Welshpool was on hand to perform the honours. Firstly Mr Young’s hair was separated from his scalp amongst much cheering from the assembled throng and squirming from the victim. Other people to feel the blade were Doug Humphrey, 4/5/6 teacher who was separated from his moustache, Chris, a student also had his head shaved, and Bev Tyers from the Welshpool Netball Club, was completely bald by the end of the day. Others from the Netball Club had their hair permanently dyed in outrageous colours.

The whole of the community got into the spirit of the occasion with the Welshpool Hotel later that evening having their own shave event with the proceeds being given to the school’s effort. |
| A big thank you must go to Marty Ward of Welshpool for offering to have his hair shaved off at the Welshpool Hotel last Friday night to help our school raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. Another thank you must also go to hotel staff member Leanne Raspin for her efforts in organising this fundraising event and for the great shaving job!! A total of $153.50 was raised. | ![]() |
